Emailing 1700 Colleges for information and swag-Part 1

I Wrote approximately 1700 colleges for swag.

Let's start by saying on June 13, 2022, I wrote 1327 emails using this list I found online.  I used the document listed below.  I sent out emails alphabetically from the list, using a BCC format in order to send multiple emails at the same time. I started each of my emails, Dear Admissions, to make generic and well rounded.  This saves time and energy.  I used Gmail as this was the easiest email I found to work with.  They limited my email sending so I will have to complete the rest tomorrow.   It took about 2 hours to send all 1327 email.  So I completed the list on June 14, 2022

Some of the email addresses were invalid.  I would say about 50.  I just deleted them. But that is a small amount compared to how many college emails listed there.

I received approximately 250 emails in return today.  Some said they don't send out swag but referred me to their website, some said all their information was online.  Five of the colleges said they will be happy to send out some swag my way. But did not tell me what.   So, we will see what happens.   A lot of them did not mention the swag at all.  Some had automatic replies that said, they have received many emails and they will answer my email in a few days.

About me!  Questions you may be asking....

Are you currently enrolled in a college?  Yes!  I am attending a community college in NYS.

Do you want to attend any of the colleges you emailed?  I opened every single email I received back.  Some seem really cool.  Some offered virtual classes, if I wanted to stay in NY.  I am thinking of venturing out of state either next spring or fall.  My children are grown up and I have no obligations.  I have already committed to attending our local community college in the fall.

Did a lot of colleges just send you to their website?  Yes, a lot of colleges referred me to their websites and encouraged me to apply online.  But we will see what will happen.

Why the Swag Challenge?  I thought it would be fun.

Would you post the email you sent to the colleges?  No! I like to be unique.  I believe the email I sent is unique to me.  I am an older adult, so my questions were based on my age.   I mentioned some facts about myself.  I have a Liberal Arts Degree and I am returning to college matriculate in 2 of my chosen fields.  I also worked in Special Ed for 12 years.  Questions I asked the schools were....

1.  Do you have an adult learner program?

2.  When will you be registering for Spring 2023?

3.  What is your tuition?

4.  Do you have scholarship and grant programs?

5.  What do you feel is the best thing about your college?

Asking for swag!  I made it fun, but not overbearing.  Either I will get something, or I will not.  This is a few lines I used in my email regarding swag

I look forward to receiving information about your college.  Any cool swag like a t-shirt (2X) or a pen would be fun.  I think this grandma running around with your college t-shirt will be outstanding.

Will you be posting what you received?  Yes! I will be posting all items, where I received it from and the date, I received it.
